Six sessions across three weeks brought about forty players through River Rats training camp. Twenty-four made the cut, eleven of them rookies.
Training camp is done, and the Regina River Rats have their team. Roughly forty skaters came through six camp sessions between October 2 and October 20 — a strong turnout for a Junior C club, and a decent problem for a coaching staff that could only keep twenty-four.
The group that survived breaks down as two goaltenders, seven defencemen and fifteen forwards, all between the ages of 18 and 21. Eleven are rookies; thirteen are returning from the side that won the 2026 QVHHL Provincial Championship.
Jack Chorney wears the C. Four players carry a letter as alternates: Wyatt Rose, Austin Enright, Brody Aston and Dylan Formo.
Behind the bench, head coach Brent Kaytor is joined by assistant coaches Dalyn Chuckry and Jackson Wingert, both of whom were pulling on a River Rats sweater themselves last season. Katie Pystchula joins the staff as team trainer.
Turning over nearly half a championship roster is not the easiest way to start a title defence, and the eleven newcomers will be asked to contribute early. The first look comes quickly — the club plays an exhibition game in Grenfell on October 23 before opening the regular season at home on October 31.
